Reclaiming Their Time- House Democrats’ “Why We Also Hate Trump’s Attorney General” Orgy of Invective

Reclaiming Their Time- House Democrats’ “Why We Also Hate Trump’s Attorney General” Orgy of Invective

In a five-hour orgy of slanderous invective, hurled at Attorney General William Barr during Tuesday’s hearing before the House Judiciary Committee, Democrats on the committee took turns bashing Barr, on everything with which they find themselves in opposition to Barr’s boss, President Donald Trump.

Partisan opposition against a sitting President is nothing new in the halls of our nation’s capital, but the Democrats’ opposition to Trump has taken on a whole new meaning, based not in ideology but in sheer hatred of the man, himself.

Even when several Democrats would preface their “questions” with “Under oath, do you here and now testify…?” Barr was surreptitiously cut off in answering the allegations when Democrats interrupted his response with “I am going to reclaim my time…” over and over and over, again.

Barr’s first Judiciary Committee hearing, since his appointment as President Donald Trump’s second Attorney General in February 2019, and twice delayed due to corona virus, began more than an hour later than scheduled, because House Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) was involved in a minor traffic accident (some reports indicate two such accidents) on his way to the Capitol.

Nadler didn’t waste any time upon his arrival and immediately set the tone for the hearing in his opening address saying, “…shame on you, Mr. Barr, shame on you…” after accusing the Attorney General of subordinating his office by acting as Donald Trump’s personal lawyer and interfering with justice in his handling of the Roger Stone and Michael Flynn convictions and sentencing. The accusations didn’t stop there.

The Attorney General was also accused of exceeding his authority in the June 1st, 2020 confrontation between U.S. Park Police/Secret Service officers and so-called “peaceful protesters” in Lafayette Square, following a night where federal officials were assaulted by these so-called “peaceful protesters” and nearby St. John’s Episcopal Church was set afire. When the Attorney General decided that the barricade preventing protester approach to the north lawn of the White House, needed to be extended from H Street to I Street, in order to protect the square as well as St. John’s, he was accused of doing so just to set up a “photo op” for the President, holding a bible in front of the church.

Nadler went on to deny Barr a late afternoon, five-minute break insisting the hearing was “almost over.” In fact, the hearing would continue for almost another hour, but not before Nadler was shamed into granting the request by House Republicans on the Committee.

Barr was also accused of instigating/aggravating “peaceful protester” unrest in deploying federal reinforcement officers to aid in protecting the U. S. District Courthouse in Portland, Oregon, under siege since riots began in that city two months prior. One of the Committee members, Steve Cohen (D-TN), has already called for Barr’s impeachment on these “offenses” while his fellow partisans took turns making baseless accusations against Barr, including that he supposedly was harboring systemic racism in the staff he brought with him into the job.

None of the Democrats on the Judiciary Committee joined in condemning riots taking place in cities around the country, insisting instead that peaceful protests are being intentionally aggravated by supposed right-wing groups attempting to create footage to be used in Trump’s campaign commercials. No evidence, not a shred of it, has come forth to substantiate such claims, but these are supposedly the fault of Barr, as well.

While most Americans are struggling with their own problems- in the wake of corona virus, its attendant layoffs, business shutdowns and urban unrest- had far better things to do than watch this spectacle, the shame of it is that they missed an opportunity to see first-hand, the absolute and possibly-psychotic level of hatred on the part of Democrats towards Trump as well as his supporters. In the televised reports following Tuesday’s Judiciary Committee hearings, they would be told how Barr was grilled by Democrats, and how he supposedly refused to provide the testimony they sought. What wouldn’t be mentioned in these reports is the sheer hatred that became all too obvious in the Democrats’ questioning, accusing, and then refusing to allow the Attorney General to answer these charges, which finally led an exasperated Barr to ask,

“Isn’t it the purpose of a hearing to hear what the witness has to say?”

No, we are sorry to say that Democrats- well expertized in the art of re-definition, have changed the meaning of their “hearing” to be “hearing” them spout off the most egregious invective against a sitting President and his Attorney General, just because like everything else, it’s all about November.

The real danger lies in the control of information stemming from these proceedings, and that most Americans will be going to the polls to vote as they have been systematically led to do so, by a mainstream media set on defeating President Trump at all costs (most precipitously being their own credibility), but then again, what the hell is media credibility when Donald Trump might be re-elected?

One might ask a member of the media, or for that matter a Democrat, that very question… then again, they would answer by merely reclaiming their time…

God willing, their “time” will be up- come November. Otherwise, we are in for the hell that will follow.

Politics in the United States- the Low that Keeps Getting Lower

Politics in the United States- the Low that Keeps Getting Lower

Going low is nothing new to politics in the United States. Ever since I can remember- and that goes back to the early 1960’s- there is something about presidential elections that brings out the worst from politicians and political operatives, who might otherwise seem to be decent people, even if their ideas often belong to the denizens of the insane.

When I was a six-year old, I remember well Lyndon Johnson’s television ad depicting a young girl, plucking the petals of a daisy, saying “He loves me, he loves me not…” and then looking up, with the camera micro-focusing on the pupil of her eye, shows the detonation of an atomic bomb. The message was quite clear: vote for Goldwater and this is what will result- pretty low, even by LBJ’s standards.

Then, when I was thirteen, I remember Edmund Muskie (D-ME) crying on national television after the Manchester Union-Leader posted a forged letter from the Senator, referring to Canadians as “canucks,” (as it turned out, the letter was created by Nixon operatives Donald Segretti and Ken Clawson).  Then, the next day, that same paper contained accusatory references to Muskie’s wife, Jane, as a drunkard who was also racially intolerant. That was too much for the long-time Senator, destined to become President Carter’s second Secretary of State. When he broke down in front of the TV cameras, his presidential campaign sank, which then led to George McGovern’s (D-SD) nomination. Sure enough, McGovern’s pick for Vice-President, Tom Eagleton (D-MO) was then effectively gas-lighted, when he was forced to admit that he was under psychiatric care for depression in the early 1960s, and had received electro-shock therapy on two occasions.

The nastiness continued well into the next decades, with Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) actually colluding with operatives in the Soviet Union, to thwart Ronald Reagan’s re-election campaign in 1984, with promises to the Soviets he would seek the presidency in 1988, and thereby be more accommodating to the troubled USSR, in the mode of Jimmy Carter.  After all, that was no surprise, when the truth came out, as the younger Kennedy brother’s corruption wasn’t limited to Chappaquiddick and the cover-up of Mary Jo Kopechne’s murder.

Then, during George Bush’s 2004 re-election campaign, CBS News long-time commentator Dan Rather ran a bogus story on 60 Minutes, supposedly documenting Vietnam-era deferments that George W. Bush supposedly received, and having had his service record scrubbed while serving in the Texas Air National Guard. It turns out that Rather, and his 60 Minutes producer Mary Mapes, knew before the broadcast that the documents they cited were bogus, but what are bogus documents when the real target was Bush’s re-election?

Such an inventory of dastardly deeds could go on and on, but taken together, along with all of the nastiness, slander and libel, done during the entire history of all this country’s presidential elections- all of it pales in comparison to the 2016 presidential election.

First, there was a baked-in guarantee that Hillary Clinton would receive the Democrat Party’s nomination, thanks to the enormous number of super-delegates, pledged to vote for her, well before the nominating contests began. Yet, that was not enough for Clinton.  Then-DNC Chairman Donna Brazile provided her with advanced questioning, prior to her debates with socialist Bernie Sanders, so she was able to come into those debates having been prepared with her answers in advance.

Yet, compared to what President Barack Obama and his administration did to Donald Trump’s campaign, such Democrat designs were only starting. Once Clinton secured her nomination, and once she was effectively cleared from further investigation and indictment by FBI Director James Comey, Democrat dirty-dealing took on an entirely new low- illegal wiretapping, warrants for spying on Trump and his operatives being obtained from the FISA courts (all based on fraudulent documents), and planting “moles” within Trump’s administration, tasked with sabotaging his presidency.

A bogus, three-year investigation, under titular leader Robert Mueller and costing over $40 million, into fabricated charges that Trump had colluded with the Russians to deny Hillary Clinton the presidency, proved to be the concocted fantasies of Clinton and Obama operatives across a myriad of DC departments and their allies across the media. Federal charges may still be in the offing against several perpetrators serving under Obama, with the Durham investigations reportedly being wrapped up as this is written. We’ll see.

After all of that, one is tempted to ask, “How much lower can it get?”

Well, just take a look around:

  • A global pandemic was sent here from communist China, which resulted in an entire shutdown of the strongest economy in American history- built and credited to President Donald Trump’s tax and regulatory reforms. The resulting, albeit necessary recommendations of his task force unwittingly provided the means for Democrat governors to deny constitutional guarantees of worship, of expression, of assembly and other draconian measures which continue to keep schools closed and mandate the wearing of masks;
  • Then, on the excuse provided by George Floyd’s death at the hands of the Minneapolis police, anarchists and revolutionary socialists, along with garden-variety felons, quickly turned demonstrations into looting, wanton destruction of private property and public monuments, rape and other assaults, along with murder. Happening across the country, all with the aiding and abetting by Democrat governors and mayors who refuse to put an end to the mayhem, this goes hand-in-hand with creating an America where citizens can no longer assume that police and other first responders will be there to protect them from danger.

Add it all up and we see a coordinated effort to deny Trump a second term, by making this country so miserable and so volatile, that even a total dunce like Joe Biden (D-DE) now has a slight chance of defeating Trump… and just to make sure, several Democrat-run states are allowing mail-in ballots, with deadlines as long as three weeks (California) following the November 3rd election, with no verification of citizenship or ballot validity, whatsoever. Then, there are polls indicating that the former Vice-President and longtime Delaware Senator is ahead of Trump (in some cases by double-digits) on all of the meaningful issues, and across all of the several states. Such polls are about as reliable as one-gallon azaleas- bought on clearance.

The treachery doesn’t end with Democrats- no, not by any means.

Several Republicans- some covertly and some overtly- are going out of their way to make sure that former Vice-President Biden, a long-time DC insider with whom they can work to fatten their cash-rich coffers (and who has no intention of draining the fetid swamp than is our nation’s capital), replaces the one man who they cannot control… their fellow Republican and incumbent President Donald Trump. While the President enjoys a record level of Republican voter support, that alone won’t keep Republican politicians of undermining the leader of their party.

After all, how else are such Republican legislators going to ever again, gain the love of their Democrat counterparts and the mainstream media, unless they work to deny Trump a second term?  Well, the truth is they won’t ever gain such love, no matter how desperately hard they try, but then again, they will never learn, will they?

Meanwhile, the country and its very future hangs in the balance. While in the national nightmare in which it finds itself, the United States continues to founder on the rocks of those who seek its destruction, and only one man can save this country… a president who wants to make our country strong and prosperous… but will they let him?

Hence, that is the issue of the 2020 Presidential Election Campaign.

An Open Letter to the President of the United States

The Honorable Donald J. Trump, President of the United States

Dear Mr. President,

I am writing you today in the hopes that what I am about to tell you will serve as a textbook example of how one citizen was effectively “cancelled,”  surreptitiously removed from the three largest social media sites- Facebook, Twitter and Linked-In.

My profiles in each of these cases were completely deleted, and without warning nor any notice, in a concerted effort to “cancel” me. The Twitter cancellation happened in the wee hours of Sunday, June 14, and then the LinkedIn cancellation happened in the wee hours of June 15th. Then, on the afternoon of  Saturday, July 4th, the same thing happened to my Facebook profile, with a message that my profile- a profile I have had and maintained since 2009- “no longer met their community standards,” and thus twelve years of history- written, recorded and posted for posterity all vanished with a stroke of a keyboard, by some determined leftist apparatchik at Facebook. Why? Because in all my writings, I have consistently and fervently supported you and your presidency.

For the last decade I have written literally hundreds of essays which I have shared first to Facebook, then from my own webpage (http://www.drew.nickell.com), and subsequently to Twitter and Linked-In, as well. I also published a book Bending Your Ear-a Collection of Essays on the Issues of Our Times in 2016 containing many of these essays, and in which I predicted your Republican Presidential Nomination as early as the late summer/early fall of 2015 in several essays which followed and are published in my book.

Because I correctly predicted your nomination and election, I was able to build up a large following on Facebook- almost 5,000 friends and another thousand followers regularly read my essays and viewed my Facebook live recordings, when I was on the air locally in Hampton Roads. Also, my website acquired upwards of 10,000 subscribers and my essays have been read in over 90 countries across the world. Similarly, I had amassed more than 400 followers on Linked-In and just as many on Twitter, largely because the essays I wrote put words into what my followers felt inside, but could not precisely articulate these feelings, themselves.

My readers also knew of my steadfast, early and continued support for your presidency and all you are trying to accomplish for the American people, and all in the face of what I know to be the greatest push-back against any President in our nation’s history. I have been studying national politics, first as a hobby and then as an avocation since I was ten years old, so I know that of which I speak, as I also read the entire 1959 edition of the World Book Encyclopedia during my youth, prompting a lifelong love of history.

Essentially, Mr. President I have thus been given a “death sentence” by the “cancel culture” that is today’s social media, which is bound and determined to silence me- just so that no one will ever again see anything I have written, and will continue to write, so that the country I love will be left into your hands for the next five years. I wholeheartedly support you, and for all that you stand, against the very formidable powers- of media and of politicos of all stripes, with which you must grapple on a daily basis.

If anyone ever asks you or your staff, just what is the “cancel culture” and/or how social media giants use their own authority to cancel the voices of reason with which they happen to disagree- I hope you and your staff will feel free to use my unfortunate example as a teaching moment to all who would suggest that these platforms allow diversity of opinion- for that, sir, is their big lie, and I sincerely hope you can put a stop to this type of abuse.

May God bless and keep you, Mr. President. I am, sir,

Very appreciatively yours,

Drew Nickell

Why we need a true Independence Day

(authors note- In the run-up to the Fourth of July national holiday weekend, we are re-posting this essay updated from 2015, calling for a true Independence Day, which appeared in our book, Bending Your Ear- a Collection of Essays on the Issues of Our Times, released c. August 15, 2016)

Why we need a true Independence Day

July 4th, 2020 will mark the 244th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia. To commemorate America’s birthday, there would have been the customary parades and fireworks displays and bar-b-ques and picnics all across the land, just as there should have been.

But a virus, residing in a human, aboard an inbound flight from the Wuhan Province of China, brought what would become a worldwide pandemic to our northwest mainland. Within three weeks, it came to our largest city, aboard an inbound flight from Italy and, effectively, the American populace was hit with the same virus, on both coasts, and spread across the land within a few weeks. We suppose two oceans no longer protect us in the jet age and, in that same jet age, pandemics spread much more quickly than they ever did in the past- so quickly that they are here before we even know what hit us.

Americans- the TRUE Americans who are not swept up in the anti-Americanism that seems to be the “cause celebre du jour” that has taken hold of the political left- will no doubt find some way to celebrate America’s birthday and all for which it has stood, and still stands, today.

This is the Independence Day which most of us revere, and which most of us are familiar.

However, there is a grievous need for another type of Independence Day- a TRUE Independence Day- the type of Independence Day which will reaffirm all that has made us independent, and thereby, has guaranteed the freedoms that we all-too-often take for granted. In essence, we need an Independence Day which will revive the slumbering spirit of independence, before we finally lose this spirit.

The spirit of independence has little to do with governmental largesse. In fact, it is this same sense of governmental largesse that has come to threaten our very freedoms and sense of independence as we know it.

This spirit of independence is thwarted by the demands for welfare and the transition to a welfare state. This spirit of independence evaporates with every new user added to the growing rolls of public assistance- EBT, extended unemployment benefits, pre-retirement social security distributions attributable to growing and specious disability payments, aid for dependent mothers, and other such programs, all of which have grown exponentially in the last decade. For every person thus put on the public dole, there is one less person who is independent, and one more person who, albeit unintentionally, weakens our nation.

This spirit of independence is threatened by the growing clarion calls for universal (meaning government-provided) cradle-to-grave health care- as though good health were something that should be not only guaranteed as a right, but provided for, by right, when such an ideology does more than anything else to increase the burden on healthcare providers and take ever more earnings from those who still work for a living, by transferring their wealth to those who refuse to work for a living.

This spirit of independence is under attack by those who favor open borders, to those who believe that suffrage (the right to vote) should be extended to non-citizens who increase dependency on social programs, the cost of which is already spinning well out of control.  The costs of uncontrolled and illegal immigration, when measured in terms of the crimes being perpetrated by many entering illegally through our porous southern borders, are enormous- and exponentially growing, year by year.

The spirit of independence is assaulted by those who believe that post high school education should be “free”- meaning that it should be paid for by increased corporate taxation, despite the very fact that the United States already has the very highest corporate tax rate in the entire world. The strains that this ideology places upon those who pay their own tuition, and those who must borrow money to pay for their own tuition does more than anything else, to astronomically increase the cost of education to ridiculously high levels. These costs are increasing at such an a alarming rate that we are quickly approaching the day that we will see the margins of diminishing returns apply to the demand for college education- in essence, a college education will be deemed not worthy of the costs of acquiring a college education.

It has been said that a nation in which people depend upon government for everything is a nation of servants- that to depend upon government for everything will produce a system where the people are subject to the loss of personal freedom…in essence, we become enslaved to our masters in government, who would seek to control all aspects of our lives, in exchange for the largesse they provide.

This dependence is NOT that upon which our forefathers risked their lives, their property and their sacred honor, as stated in the Declaration of Independence. They did not fight a war with Great Britain to create a nation of “suckling pigs” permanently attached to the teats of a massive “sow” that is government largesse. No, these patriots were the very expression of self-sufficiency and independence that once made this nation the greatest in the world. Yet now, those very things that made us so strong and independent are threatened, to the point of extinction, by the ever-increasing dependence on the state for everything we want, and determine to be our entitlement.

On this, the 244th anniversary of American independence, let us resolve to reincarnate a spirit of TRUE independence. Let us endeavor to revive the spirit of self-sufficiency, and reacquire the can-do determination to make for ourselves a more perfect union, without having to depend upon someone else to do this for us. Let us, as a nation, once again project a righteous indignation to persevere on, without having to depend upon a state that would seek to further enslave and constrain our desire to pursue our birthright for this day, and for all time.

Drew Nickell was back on the Radio on Thursday, 2 July 2020 at 1:00 PM, EDT

I was back on the radio sitting in on the Nora Firestone Show, on WKQA-AM Freedom 1110, where I discussed where my generation failed, the Black Lives Matter movement, efforts to de-fund our police departments, what is behind the destruction of our monuments, redistribution and social justice, and why we need a true Independence Day.

This show will also appeared as a “Facebook live” broadcast, but because I was broadcasting remotely, the picture quality may be someone diminished. Nevertheless, I hope you will enjoy the replay of this broadcast…
