Today, the Theft of History, Tomorrow, the Theft of a Country

All across our blessed land, statues erected in the past by those who felt strongly enough to erect these statues, are being desecrated, vandalized, and otherwise destroyed by mobs. Sadly, these same mobs know even less about history than they do about the fact that they are being played by those who want to destroy the United States of America.

It started with statues and monuments to heroes of the Confederacy (http://www.drewnickell.com/?p=1451 ) being defaced and destroyed, then this destruction proceeded to include Union generals, past presidents, explorers, missionaries, abolitionists and virtually anyone else from the nation’s past. The angry young mobs- totally ignorant of the nation’s history due to the “politically-missioned” indoctrination they received from their union-member teachers (in place of actually teaching our nation’s true history)- are now the play children of those who nefariously stage these demonstrations with an intent to divide the country and destroy its tenets.

Once the monuments are gone, then the next target (already coming into scorn by leftist professors in our publicly-funded universities) will be the nation’s founding documents- the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and its Bill of Rights, and the Federalist Papers which constitute the mindset and intent behind these documents, and why they were crafted thusly. Once these have been marginalized to become the mere musings of white men who owned black slaves, then the whole structure of our representative democracy comes crashing down in the wake of political correctness and historical revisionism.

Make no mistake- that is what all of this is about. Destroy the very fabric of a nation, tear down its reminders of how we got to where we are, destroy its institutions, and so divide its populace that the entire nation comes tumbling down.

Democrats, in their refusal to unconditionally condemn these actions and even enforce existing laws designed to protect these monuments, are just as complicit in this destruction as the angry mobs, themselves. In truth, Democrats all want these monuments to come down, but they lack the political mandate and the intestinal fortitude to make their intentions known, so they silently sit back and let the mobs do their own dirty work for them.

Republicans, in their reticence to speak out against this same destruction for fear that their adversaries and the media (one and the same) would label them “racist,” abide this wave of violence out of the same feckless cowardice shown by their Democrat opponents.

Yes, all of these attempts to destroy these monuments and, in turn, our nation- along with the refusal of our elected representatives and governmental officials to stop this from happening in the first place- are inherently political and are taking place, not coincidentally, in a presidential election year.

Yes, it is all about November, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

So, while we are then left with a single man- the President of the United States Donald J. Trump- to stand in the way of those intending to take this nation, as well as its monuments, down for good, we are also standing on the precipice of national suicide…

…and those who hate our nation and all it stands for, wouldn’t have it any other way.

In the Run-up to Fathers’ Day- to Our Children and Their Children, Nostra Culpa

In the Run-up to Fathers’ Day- to Our Children and Their Children, Nostra Culpa

An open letter to those under 35 years of age-

I am writing to you representing your parents’ and grandparents’ generation because we, in our generation (those of us over 55), find that there was something very important lacking in your upbringing- something that was passed down to us from our parents, but that we failed to pass along to you.

In explaining to you what we failed to pass along to you, I will need to tell you of a time in our own recollection- a time when we ourselves were children, and describe what those times were like. In each case, I will show you exactly where we came up short in facilitating your overall deportment.

First, we grew up in neighborhoods where we knew every house by the people who lived there- dozens of names and faces and homes where they lived. In those days, our parents would exchange waves and hellos with them, and taught us to do the same. We knew everyone by name, and they knew us by name, and so our neighborhoods became external extensions of the family, and thus we felt part of a larger community.

I am sorry to say that this was not the case when you were young, largely because we were distracted from passing along these customs to you. The unfortunate legacy of this omission has contributed towards your estrangement with those who live in close proximity to you. In many cases, you don’t know even your closest neighbors’ names and your own sense of community has devolved to where you work, and associations made within your kids’ school groups.

Second, we grew up in an age where we as children pretty much knew what was expected of us. A thorough cleansing on Saturday nights, dressing in our finest on Sunday mornings and being hauled off to Sunday school and church services was the norm that we could set our calendrer weeks by- practically never fail. Even if we didn’t pay close attention to our Sunday school teachers or the clergy who delivered these services, somehow the notion of something larger than ourselves, as well as an absolute understanding of right and wrong, got hammered into our distracted heads and there was little question of shades of gray between the two.

Sadly, we grew lax in these efforts, when taking you to Sunday school and church services became an occasional thing for some of you, and non-existent for others of your generation. The absolutes of right and wrong on which we were raised somehow became pragmatic and situational when it came to your own upbringing. Gone was the certainty of the eternal salvation that we were so anchored in as the result of our own upbringing.

Third, we were educated in our country’s history and in how our government works, without the dense fog of cynicism so prevalent in the indoctrination to which you have been subjected. We knew, for instance, that many of our nation’s founders were slave holders, but we also knew that what they created was a system of government that put the rights of the individual first- something no other country had ever attempted, before. We were taught that our country’s history, imperfect as it most certainly was, was nevertheless a continual journey towards a more perfect union, and that all of us shared in that journey towards making our country a better place. We also were taught the virtues of patriotism, respect for the flag, respect for each other, and were shown how the United States were a nation which other nations looked to with hope. Hardly a house in our neighborhoods failed to fly the flag on our national holidays, and invariably were taken in before nightfall. Being an American was special, and our parents and schools taught us just why.

Regrettably, your own education often focused its attention on the shortcomings of our nation’s founders, and in always focusing on how people of color were treated by those in power, you were not taught the larger, lasting legacy of what these founders left for us. You were taught that most of the world’s problems were the result of our own country’s shortcomings abroad- never knowing how the United States saved the world from annihilation twice in the twentieth century, and the sacrifices that were made in pursuit of peace the world over. As parents, we gave in to the professionals staffing your classrooms, with nary a clue as to what you were being taught. Oh, we were diligent in getting you to your soccer practices and dance classes, and made sure your slate was filled with after-school activities but again, we had no idea what the kids we were taking to these activities were being taught in the hours preceding. When you were young, perhaps watching professional sports with us, we didn’t tell you to stand up and place your authentic major league ball caps over your hearts and show respect to our anthem and our flag.

Please don’t get the idea that the times in which we were young were somehow devoid of challenges and social upheaval. Nothing could be further from the truth. We recognize that for many people- women, the handicapped and impaired, the people of color, in particular- great strides have been made to ensure that access and opportunity are extended to all on a level playing field, that was not the case in our youth.

Yet, I can say with absolute certainty that most all of us in our generation found happiness in our lives, pride in our country, an abiding sense of belonging to a neighborhood and a community, and the comfort to know that God loves us all. We believed that the possibilities of the future were boundless, as long as we showed respect to one another and did the right thing.

For all these many things and the values that we did not pass along to you, on behalf of our generation, please accept my sincere apology, in the hopes that you will not do with your children as we did with you. Their future depends on it.

Sincerely,

De-funding the Police: The Democrats’ Race to “Out-Stupid” One Another

De-funding the Police: The Democrats’ Race to “Out-Stupid” One Another

Just when we had come to the conclusion that Democrats, only recently having nominated Joe Biden (D-DE) to oppose President Donald Trump in this fall’s election, had hit “bottom” on the intelligence scale, we now see a serious movement afoot by Democrat mayors and Democrat city councils to de-fund their cities’ police departments.

Across the country, many of the nation’s largest cities have seriously taken up initiatives to de-fund, if not deconstruct and outright dismantle, police departments at the very time these same cities have witnessed rioting, wholesale looting as well as destruction of private and municipal property, in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland OR, Seattle, just to name a few, including an almost-contiguous string of northeastern coastal cities- Richmond, Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City, Boston and Hartford, CT are all seriously looking to implement drastic reductions in funding for their police departments. Some even seek to replace their cities’ trained police professionals with “community policing,” which seeks “restorative justice” in lieu of criminal justice.

Here’s the difference:

A man breaks into your home with an attempt to steal your valuables…

  • In criminal justice, an arrest is made by local law enforcement, and the perpetrator is taken into custody. He is arraigned and a trial to determine his guilt or innocence, based on evidence found at the crime scene, takes place. If found guilty, sentence is then rendered at a sentencing hearing. It’s called due process.
  • In restorative justice, no arrest is made, no one is taken into custody, no arraignment takes place, no trial is docketed, and no criminal sentence is rendered. Instead, a mediating session takes place between the man who broke into your house and yourself, overseen by a social justice “worker,” to arrive upon some kind of agreed-upon compromise which recognizes your own “privilege” vis-à-vis the societal justification for his breaking into your home. It’s called “community policing.”

So, this is the altar upon which the Democrat party seeks to slay itself, for all time?

Despite Joe Biden’s and Nancy Pelosi’s claims to the contrary, that they are not for de-funding police departments, rest assured they will stand solidly behind these efforts- just as soon as the message of their party’s left fringes makes its way to their old, tried and tired ears, that this is where their party’s voters demand they go.

It is as if the Democrats are in a race to “out-stupid” one another.

All of the talk about “suburban soccer moms” opposing President Trump’s re-election, because he tweets and “he is mean,” will go out the window once their homes are broken into and their cars vandalized. There is nothing that these women fear more- not even four-and-a-half more years of Trump– than the idea that their children, their homes and their own safety would be placed in harm’s way, without a police department to protect and serve their communities.

It’s not enough that Democrats oppose the wall on our nation’s southern border. It’s not enough that Democrats want instead to facilitate an open border, with unlimited and unrestricted immigration. It’s not enough that Democrats want to instantly confer citizenship on everyone who has entered this country illegally. It’s not enough that Democrats want to completely dismantle CPB- Customs and Border Protection and ICE- Immigration and Customs Enforcement…

…now, they want to de-fund and/or bring an end to local law enforcement…

…and we are supposed to believe that the majority of people in this country would support all of these ends, and thereby elect Joe Biden as the nation’s forty-sixth President?

“C’mon, man…”

Drew Nickell was back on the Radio on Thursday, 4 June 2020

I was back on the radio today, sitting in on the Nora Firestone Show, on WKQA-AM Freedom 1110, where I was discussing the truth about wearing masks, holding China accountable for the coronavirus pandemic, continued revelations about the about corruption in the Obama Administration, the unlawful death of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis Police, and the rioting that has come on its heels.

This show also appeared as a “Facebook live” broadcast, but because I was broadcasting remotely, the picture quality may be somewhat diminished. Nevertheless, I hope you will enjoy the replay of this broadcast
