Mueller’s Mousetrap: “…not the target, just the subject…”

Mueller’s Mousetrap: “…not the target, just the subject…”

Almost a year, and tens of millions of dollars later, President Donald Trump’s lawyers were supposedly informed that the president is “no longer the target” of Robert Mueller’s investigation, but is merely “the subject” of it…as if to say, “Come sit down and answer questions, Mr. President…it won’t hurt…we promise…”

As if…

Mueller, who staffed his team exclusively with Democrats within the Justice Department- including Democrat activists and Hillary Clinton campaign donors- has indicated that, although the president is not a target of criminal inquiry, he remains the subject of the inquiry…and that the inquiry now concerns obstruction of justice.

As if the president and his lawyers are naïve enough to fall for that one…

Let’s be clear. Having failed to find even the slightest evidence that Trump’s campaign colluded with Russians to deny Hillary Clinton the election she was “supposed” to win by a landslide, as was the stated purpose of Mueller’s appointment by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the investigation is now aimed at finding evidence that President Trump obstructed justice in his firing of FBI Director James Comey.

The only problem is that a sitting president can fire anyone he chooses, for any reason a president finds necessary, and this applies to the exalted James Comey, as well. Mueller’s latest fishing expedition is purportedly attempting to find that the reason Trump fired Comey was to interfere with an investigation that was based on Comey’s own fabrication of a crime…a crime that did not exist. Not even a high hurdler would stretch that much before running a race, but this is nevertheless a mighty stretch, to say the least. What this also shows is that Mueller’s investigation, from the day of its inception, was intended for one purpose, and one purpose only…to overturn the results of the 2016 presidential election and force duly-elected President Donald J. Trump out of office.

At day’s end, Robert Mueller cannot force the president to answer his questions for three important reasons:

– The president, as any citizen, has the right to withhold testimony, commensurate with his Fifth Amendment rights;

– The president has an absolute right to executive privilege when it comes to answering questions about any discussions he has had while in office;

– If he so chooses, regardless of the political ramifications for doing so, the president has an absolute right to fire Robert Mueller for any reason, including any scenario where Mr. Mueller exceeds the scope of his authority under his own appointment as special counsel.

While the president talks about wanting to sit down with Mueller and answer his questions in hopes to bring this investigation to an anti-climactic conclusion, this is nothing more than a public relations stunt to show the public that he has done nothing wrong to fear such an interview. Yet, the president also knows that Mueller will stop at nothing to trip him up and lay a perjury trap, based on the most trivial and innocent discrepancy with anyone he has already interviewed, and THEN the president would find himself once again a target of a criminal investigation.

In short, the day when President Donald Trump sits down with Robert Mueller, face-to-face, will be the day he hands over his presidency to Democrats who want him out of office, period…and no amount of sweet-talk from Mueller, or anyone else, can change that fact.

None.
